PlanMaryland Interactive Map

PlanMaryland Citizen Input Map

The PlanMaryland Citizen Input Map website offers Maryland residents and other interested parties a unique way to share their thoughts and ideas about how PlanMaryland relates to specific places in the state.

Using this tool, you can place markers on the map that relate to the important places in your everyday life: those places where you live, work and play.

For each marker, you can answer a few questions about the place, provide a comment and even upload photos that depict why the place is important to you. The input that you provide here, and the comments to the latest version of the draft plan, will inform the PlanMaryland process as we move through the comment period that ends November 9, 2011.

We hope that you find the PlanMaryland Citizen Input Map an enjoyable exercise for giving voice to those places you hold dear in Maryland. MDP has endeavored to make this map visualization and input tool easy-to-use and supportive of the process. This website is designed for regional planning and display purposes – the information that we collect will be displayed for public viewing on the map. Any personal information (i.e. name, email address) collected will not be displayed on the site and is subject to the state's General Privacy Policy.

We appreciate the courtesy of your time and your input.

Using the PlanMaryland Citizen Input Map

After clicking the launch button, you will be taken to an interactive PlanMaryland map. This map displays the initial state Designated Places, which are areas defined in the plan where development, conservation and sustainable quality of life actions will be focused. These will be defined jointly as priorities by state and local governments through a collaborative process.

By selecting the "Public Comment" marker under the "Your Input" box, you can click on a point on the map where you want to comment. Choose a marker that describes your reason for marking this place: i.e. Protect/Conserve Natural Resource Area; Area for Targeting Future Growth; or Area Remain Farmland/Forestry. You may also choose the General marker for a general comment.

Once selecting the marker style to use, move your pointer to the area on the map you wish to comment on. The question box for that marker will open for you to complete for the selected point on the map. If the complete question box is hidden, you may "pan" the map by holding you left mouse button down and moving the map. After completing the questions, you may upload one or more photos that illustrate why the place is important to you. If you want to add photos, click "Photos relating to this Marker" in the lower right of the question box. If you are finished, click "OK."
